In Defence of Chapters

without comments

Just read this piece in Eye Weekly in defence of Canadian mega-book store Chapters. I have to say I agree with the woman. I like the selection and faceless feeling of Chapters stores. I’m there to buy books I’m not there to be judged.

I’m not a hipster, I don’t go to a bookstore to be seen or to receive confirmation from society that I’m cool. I go to find books that I love to read. I think that’s why I like my Kobo. It lets me buy what I want without judgement (websites don’t judge).

Besides, bookstores are one of my experiences from living at home that I shared with my parents (the other being movies) and Chapters is still the place I go every time I make a trip home. So I have to say that I like it and that the store was an important part of my life growing up.

And if that makes me uncool so what?

Dundas Ontario’s Caribou (formerly known as Manitoba) took Canada’s Polaris Music Prize on Monday night. His album Andorra mixes Beach Boy pop with electronic loops into an excellent sound. I’ve been listening to it this afternoon and am really enjoying it. I’m a little sad that I didn’t start listening to it earlier. Go ahead and discover it for yourself too.
